MixTape Review: Fear of God by Pusha –T
This Mi
xtape is full of some of the smooths flows in hip-hop today. Pusha –T is one half of the now disbanded group “The Clipes” a Virginia based Rap group who have been on the scene since 2001 with the album “Lord Willing” and the hit single “GRINDING” which launched them into the for front of the Coke Flow movement in the south, now that Pusha –T has gone solo his stock has gone up in the Rap. He has always been known as one of the top Coke Flow Rappers in the game today but now with his brother Malice no longer backing him with his own brand of conscious rap flow, Pusha is left to his own words and thoughts to keep the balance in his music.
The Fact is Pusha –T is one the most respected rappers in Hip-Hop from the west to the east; he is universally accepted as one of the best in the industry to date. He also has done some guess spots on Kanye West latest album “My Beautiful Dark Fantasy” which gave his career as a solo artist a major boost, now with his eagerly awaited mixtape “Fear of God” his ascension into raps elite status is now in progress.
Fear of God is one of best examples of a rapper at the top of his game with tracks featuring the likes of 50cent, Kanye West, Rick Ross, Pharrell Williams; he proves that he can hold his own against some of raps biggest heavy weights while not compromising his own style or flow to cater to his fellow MC’s. Many times when you’re listening to a newly solo rapper, you’re waiting for their former partner to drop in a line or two but not with this Mixtape Pusha drop’s some of the hottest lines I’ve heard in a long time, from certified bangers like “I Still Wanna Rock” ft Rick Ross, to “Alone in Vegas” a introspective outro. He shows you he is a cut above your average MC of today, where talking about bottles & models has become the norm. Pusha has decided to bring it back to the raw street format… In closing I give this Mixtape a 9 out of 10 Headphones ratings a certified must listen!!!
Album Review of the Week: Lupe Fiasco “Lasers”
This album is a strong mix of Inspirational tracks like “The Show Goes On” and Political anthems like “Words I never said” which focuses on today’s most pressing issues from budget cuts to religious conflicts abroad. The one thing you can tell is that Lupe has a strong delivery that allows him to clearly get his point across in his music. The production on this album is very good as well thanks to producers like King David and host of other Produces and composers.
One thing you can count on from Lupe Fiasco is a combination of witty lyrics and strong view points on verity of topics from women to money and politics. The ability to cover so many topics is one of the skills that Lupe brings on this album that makes this a must buy for anyone who is a real lover of Hip-Hop music. He also has a host of calibrations with Trey Songz, Skylar Grey, and John Legend to name a few which brings a different flavor to the album.
So in closing if you’re looking for a album to hop on the train with or just throw in the ride and not have to skip a track while feeling like your listening to someone who is actually saying something other than how many bottles they popped in the club the other night than this is the album for you!… I give it the old school 4 ½ mic’s
